Distinct Advantages to Continental Hi-Rail Models:
- All Continental models use drop forged wheels as opposed to cast. This provides superior wheel life, with Continental wheels lasting 4 to 5 times longer than our competition. The initial cost of forged wheels is typically 25%-35% higher when compared to cast, which would typically add between $1,200 and $1,500 to the overall price of a hi-rail unit. We absorb this additional cost to provide you with a far superior product.
- All models incorporate fully automatic mechanical locking in both the raised and lowered positions, a feature not offered by our competition. This makes Continental hi-rail the easiest to operate, with no locking pins, levers, or cables to manually apply. The addition of this feature eliminates the chance of operator error, greatly reducing maintenance and repair costs throughout the life of the vehicle.
- All models are shipped completely pre-assembled and tested, making Continental hi-rail the easiest units to install. Shipping costs are also reduced, with one full unit shipped on one single pallet. This allows your installers to reduce their cost of assembly, and therefore reduce the initial purchase costl.
- All models use independent mounting plates, which provide a full range of adjustment to specifically tailor the hi-rail installation to the vehicle. This provides for a superior ride and reduced maintenance, again reducing the repair costs throughout the life of the vehicle.
- Loading through our mounting plates is directed to the underside of the vehicle frame, eliminating all shear stress in the mounting bolts.
- All models incorporate full rubber suspension, eliminating road shocks being transmitted through the hi-rail to the vehicle, again providing for a smoother ride and greatly reducing maintenance costs.
- All models provide full track circuit insulation through all 4 wheels, as opposed to 2 wheels for some of the competition. This means that for one of our hi-rail units to lose it’s insulation, in fact two insulators must become defective at the same time. This has never occurred to date.
- All models include adjustable spindle housing for toe-in and toe-out adjustments, allowing a very simple alignment adjustment.
- All models provide for the ability to adjust the gauge of the unit, a feature not offered by our competition. This allows the unit to be tailored to a particular section of worn track or sub-division, again reducing maintenance costs.
- All models provide for the ability to simply and easily short-circuit the track circuit insulation, should the need arise. This is not possible with any of our competition’s units.
- Continental has shown the desire and ability to modify our designs quickly and at no cost to our customers for specialty vehicles as required. This committement to our customer relationship has provided considerable savings over the past years, as well as having provided a level of expertise that is very difficult to come by.
- Continental makes a concious effort to minimize the number of replacement parts throughout the model lineup. For instance, the exact same brake shoe is used on all of our hi-rail models, as well as the same brake chambers and brake linkages. The same bearings, seals, hub caps, gaskets, castle nuts, spindles, and insulators are used for both our 10” wheel models and 12” wheel models. Finally, Continental is commited to providing superior after-sales service to all of our customers, and we keep a massive inventory of spare parts in our Montreal facility to ensure same-day shipping of any part required for any of our hi-rail units.
- Our United States Representative is RBL, Inc. in Minneapolis, MN. They stock a full supply of repair parts so that we can ship directly from Minneapolis to save you time and freight. Of course, if there is a special assembly required that is not a common part for stock inventory, we can ship it from Montreal, Quebec quickly if required.
